IRC Stair Building Requirements

The International Residential Code contains code requirements for regulating stairways in an effort not only to make them useable, but also to help in reducing the number of injuries caused by stairway accidents. And as builders know, constructing code complaint stairs can often present significant challenges.

The Stairway Manufacturers Association has published a visual interpretation of the International Residential Code as it relates to stairways. The attached document provides accurate visual pictorials to aid in the understanding of the written text. Please feel free to refer to the document when addressing stair related building issues.
